Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Applaud Trump Administration’s Keystone XL Approval

Toronto, January 24, 2017

Canadian Manufactures & Exporters (CME), Canada’s leading trade and industry association and the voice of manufacturing and global business in Canada, welcomes the decision today of United States’ President Donald Trump to move forward with the Keystone and Dakota pipeline.

“We have long supported the essential need for increased access to foreign markets for Canadian natural resources, especially oil, and this decision moves Keystone XL one step closer to reality and is a critical step in this market access opportunity,” stated Mathew Wilson, CME’s Senior Vice President.

All of North America will benefit from the building of the Keystone pipeline. A $5.3-billion project making it the largest infrastructure project currently proposed in the United States. The planned pipeline would stretch 2,400 km from Alberta through to the US Gulf Coast refineries.

“Keystone is an enormous opportunity for Canadian manufacturers and offers great opportunities for those companies operating within energy supply chain, ” added Wilson. “Not only will it allow for the increase in production and export of Canadian oil to the US, building the pipeline and the increased output will drive demand for Canadian-made products including steel and machinery to chemicals and electrical components. This announcement is a great step forward for both countries and builds on the already announced plans for expanded pipelines within Canada.”
