CME APPRECIATES INITIAL COMMITMENTS IN MADE-IN-ONTARIO ENVIRONMENT PLAN

TORONTO, November 29, 2018

Dennis Darby, President and CEO of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) released the following statement today on the Government of Ontario’s Made in Ontario Environment plan.

“Today’s Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan is the first step towards a  long-term plan to address climate change and reduce emissions in Ontario. We acknowledge and appreciate the Government’s focus on innovation, clean technology adoption and commitment to balance reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing investment in Ontario.  These are critical components to achieving a sustainable and competitive manufacturing sector in the province.

The development of an emission reduction fund, the incentives for the creation of clean technology manufacturing jobs and the prioritization of environmental approvals for manufacturers are positive commitments for the industry.

How the plan is implemented will be critical to reach the delicate balance between reducing emissions and increasing investment in the manufacturing sector. We look forward to working with the Government of Ontario as the consultation process continues to unfold.”
