Concern with the rise of “Buy Local” policies in the United States

April 3, 2017

We understand there remains a great deal of uncertainty and many questions over what may happen with “Buy Local” policies in the United States and the ability of Canadian companies to continue to access the US market as part of integrated supply chains. At CME we continue to work on behalf of all of our members to ensure that your interests are top of mind for government officials and to get you answers to these questions when they become available.

As part of this process, today CME President & CEO Dennis A. Darby wrote to the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities regarding our concern with the rise of “Buy Local” policies in the United States, and to urge the government to work to provide a level-playing field for Canadian manufacturers who export goods and contribute to infrastructure projects in the US. We greatly appreciate your continued support for CME’s ongoing efforts to make manufacturing in Canada stronger, more competitive and growing.

If you have any specific questions or comments on CME’s actions on your behalf, on the government’s strategy or on the US strategy, please feel free to contact us at policy@cme-mec.ca.
