Rio Tinto Conference Reflections

Rio Tinto is a proud member of CME, and was pleased to sponsor this important event. Productive, tripartite collaboration was a central theme throughout the Conference. From Minister Mary Ng’s fireside chat with our own Brendan Marshall, which closed CME’s Manufacturing Day on the Hill, to a series of captivating panels featuring speakers from all three countries throughout the North American Manufacturing Conference itself, one theme emerged clearly: we are better off working together to secure strong and competitive North American economic trade. Better for manufacturers, better for workers and better for our communities.

Rio Tino matters to the Canada-US relationship, and the capabilities we have position us to matter even more. In Canada, Rio Tinto produces among the lowest carbon intensity aluminum in the world and serves as the single largest supplier of primary aluminum to the United States market. We are also partnering with Alcoa on the development of zero-carbon aluminum smelting technology – a first in the world, and a testament to the potential to do great things when we as competitors work together as partners.

Rio is also advancing critical mineral production in Canada in areas of import reliance, such as scandium and titanium: critical inputs representing an opportunity to deepen cross-border partnerships while bolstering continental security of our supply.
