HOW TO APPLY

The Alberta Manufacturing Productivity Grant (AMPG), funded by the Government of Alberta, requires the participating company to successfully complete each program requirement during the timeline of the program.

Step 1: Eligibility Application

To apply for the Alberta Manufacturing Productivity Grant, you must first complete and submit the program application form to determine eligibility. If you run into any difficulties, technical help is available at AB.ProductivityInvestment@cme-mec.ca.

Eligibility is restricted to SME Alberta manufacturers (between 5 and 750 employees) who have been in business for at least 2 years and can demonstrate financial stability. Full eligibility requirements are listed here.

The program ends on March 31, 2027 however, applications will only be accepted until October 31, 2026, or until program funding is fully allocated (whichever comes first). Due to high expected demand, company applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once program funds have been allocated to manufacturers, all other applicants will be placed in a queue for possible additional funding in the future.

Step 2: Operational Assessment

Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will be invited to participate in the first phase of the program, the Operational Technology Assessment.

CME and our industry experts will review the information and may ask for supporting documents from the applicant. Eligibility will be determined based on the documentation provided by the applicant in conformance to the eligibility criteria. The applicant will be advised if their application is approved within 15 business days from date of submission.

Successful applicants will be offered a three-day comprehensive assessment of the specific operations that the manufacturer is looking to invest in. The assessment will be conducted by qualified CME experts who will follow CME’s established assessment protocol to provide real insights and guidance to companies on priority areas for operational improvements.

The results of this assessment will directly benefit program participants by identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting informed decision-making. As part of this process, successful applications will receive a written assessment for their operational excellence. This will directly link to the investment grant portion of the program, while also identifying non-investment opportunities for operational improvements.

Operational Technology Assessments – valued at $3,000 – will be offered at no cost to participants, thanks to funding provided by the Government of Alberta.

Assessments will be conducted for eligible companies from July 2025, until the program has been fully subscribed, but no later than December 31, 2026.

Step 3: Investment Grant Application

The application package for the investment grant will be emailed to the principal applicant once initial eligibility is verified.

While participating in the Operational Technology Assessment, manufacturers will also be eligible to apply for Phase 2: the Investment Grant.

The second part of the program will provide direct financial assistance to SME manufacturers in Alberta to invest in new productivity enhancing technologies based on the results of the phase-one operational technology assessment. Thanks to funding from the Government of Alberta, AMPG will provide a matching contribution grant of up to $30,000 to support the investment in long-term production assets and technology that increase production capacity.

The grant will cover a maximum of 50% of eligible costs, which can include capital equipment, materials, training on new equipment, installation of new equipment, professional service fees, as well as a company’s direct labour devoted to the completion and management of the project. Qualifying technologies may include: equipment; robotics; automation; artificial intelligence; machine learning; advancing networks; and equipment for investments in the Internet of Things.

Please refer to the application guidelines for specific inclusions and exclusions of technologies and eligible costs.

Investments beginning April 1, 2025, in long-term production assets and technology may be eligible for funding. Implementation of the long-term production assets and technology must be completed by the applicant by December 31, 2026.

Step 4: Grant Approval and Initial Payment

Upon receipt of the completed application, CME and our industry experts will review the information and may ask for supporting documents from the applicant. Eligibility will be determined based on the documentation provided by the applicant in conformance to the eligibility criteria. The applicant will be advised if their application is approved within 45 business days from date of submission.

A CME representative will contact approved applicants and provide a copy of the legally binding Contribution Agreement (contract). Applicants will receive 30% of approved funding 30 business days from the date of the signed contribution agreement.

Step 5: Final Grant Payment and Project Completion

Once the approved project is complete, applicants will be required to complete a Final Report and Expense Claim Form, which will identify the budgeted expenses you submitted as part of the original application. Any significant variations (up or down) in actual expenses will need to be justified and approved by CME.

Necessary forms to submit your final report and claim will be provided by CME. Once the final report and documentation have been received, they will be reviewed for final approval. The applicant will receive their final payment (70% of approved funding) within 30-60 business days of the approval date.

WHO SHOULD COMPLETE THE APPLICATION?

The contribution agreement should be signed by the organization’s signing officer. Third-party submissions will not be considered.
