Call for Nominations – National Board of Directors, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters

October 3, 2017

Help be part of a national effort to define the new face of manufacturing for Canada.

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) is Canada’s largest and most influential industry and trade association. Since 1871, its mandate has been to enhance the competitiveness and growth of our manufacturing sector and help Canadian companies compete and win here and around the world. The association is the champion for its members – manufacturers, fabricators, assemblers, processors, refiners, engineering companies and supporting businesses – drawing public attention to the achievements of the sector, commenting on business and economic issues in the media and to governments, and setting forth a clear plan for the vision of manufacturing and export as keys to Canada’s long-term success and growth. Particularly in these times of global uncertainty, new and renegotiated trade agreements, and increased application of automation and artificial intelligence to boost productivity and cost-competitiveness, the role of CME and its board of directors is more critical than ever.

As a member of CME’s National Board of Directors, you will be part of a group of professionals dedicated to setting the long-term strategic plan of the association, monitoring the progress of staff located across Canada to deliver that plan, and providing input and counsel to your CEO on issues and opportunities. You and your colleagues on the board represent a diverse background of skills and experiences in the manufacturing sector, and from across the spectrum of start-up companies to large multinational companies who operate anywhere in Canada. Areas of expertise needed for the board include experiences ranging from general business management, accounting, and finance, productivity, and R&D, to employee engagement and government and stakeholder relations.

CME is committed to the development of advanced manufacturing capabilities in Canada through its Canada Makes initiative, to gender equality and promotion of careers in STEM-related areas through its Women in Manufacturing initiative, to the long-term growth and viability of Canadian competitiveness in world markets through its Industrie 2030 initiative. As a board member, you will have the opportunity to contribute to these efforts, as well as to be part of the Governance of CME via its fiduciary committees of Finance and Risk Management, Human Resources and Governance and Nominating.

Board members serve for a 3-year term, renewable 4 times. The board meets 5 times per year across the country, and committees meet 4 to 6 times per year, typically by teleconference. CME provides opportunities for board advancement to committee chair, executive and chair positions if you are interested and able to commit your efforts to CME.

CME supports diversity of thought, race, gender, sexual orientation and geographic location as critical elements to an effective and forward-thinking association. We are looking for talent to fill board positions over the next 18 months.

If you are passionate about the importance of manufacturing and export to Canada’s economic growth and stability, and have relevant experience that would help CME better fulfill its mandate, please send your CV to Susan Kallsen, Corporate Secretary, via email to susan.kallsen@cme-mec.ca.
