Canada’s Economic Strategy Tables Report echoes CME’s Industrie 2030 recommendations

Ottawa, September 25, 2018

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) welcomes the release of Canada’s Economic Strategy Tables Report, a comprehensive roadmap issued by the federal government to foster growth and competitiveness in the manufacturing sector and related industries.

“We are pleased the government recognizes the manufacturing sector as a driver of economic growth in Canada,” said Dennis Darby, President & CEO of CME. “CME participated to the roundtables and, we are encouraged that the report proposes several key initiatives that are strongly aligned with our recommendations.”

“We look forward to partnering with the government to implement the important initiatives included the report and to work together towards the common goals of enhancing business competitiveness and advance manufacturing in Canada,” Darby added. “We urge Minister Morneau to start the implementation of the report’s suggestions as soon as possible through the Fall Economic Update.”

In 2016, CME released Industrie 2030, a road map to achieve long-term growth in manufacturing by doubling manufacturing output and value-added exports by 2030, following extensive consultation with industry which yielded similar conclusions to the Economic Strategy Tables Report.

Canada’s Economic Strategy Tables consist of six roundtables led by industry experts (Advanced Manufacturing, Agri-Food, Resources, Health and Biosciences, Clean Technology and Digital Industries). They were launched in 2017 by the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development which the objective to create the conditions for strong, sustained long-term economic growth that will secure Canadians’ quality of life.
