CME congratulates UCP on election win

Time for government and industry to build comprehensive manufacturing strategy for Alberta

EDMONTON (April 17, 2019) — Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) congratulates Premier-Designate Jason Kenney and the United Conservative Party (UCP) on their decisive election win.

“CME is looking forward to working with the new government to get more Albertans back to work,” said David MacLean, CME Alberta Vice President. “Premier-Designate Kenney has made job creation his top priority – and it’s our hope the government’s plan includes a comprehensive manufacturing strategy.”

“Alberta’s future prosperity depends on a stronger, more competitive and more diverse economy.  Unfortunately, the sector is falling behind – with declining investment and employment numbers,” added MacLean.

“A manufacturing strategy to boost investment, address challenges to competitiveness and remove barriers to trade will set the province on a path to growth.”

During the election campaign, CME launched Manufacturing Matters Alberta, a digital advocacy campaign voicing the need for a manufacturing strategy. The campaign gathered thousands of supporters across the province and highlighted the importance of manufacturing to the Alberta economy.
