Nova Scotia Annual Meeting Day

Thank you for attending CME’s 67th Annual Meeting Day. We will see you in May 2020!

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters  will be hosting our 67th Annual Meeting Day on May 30, 2019 in Dartmouth, NS. This event provides a tremendous opportunity to network with members of the manufacturing and export community within the Nova Scotia economy, in an informal and friendly setting.

Nova Scotia’s economy is dependent on manufacturing and exporting as our sector contributes 7.9% of the provincial GDP and nearly 31,000 direct jobs in the province.

We would like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to this celebration that will bring together industry, government and stakeholders of manufacturing and exporting in Nova Scotia

The day will include:

  • Annual General Meeting – a quick re-cap of industry accomplishments and CME
  • Networking Reception with industry and stakeholders
  • Lunch with Keynote

LEADERSHIP AWARD CATEGORIES

We are now accepting nominations for the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters Nova Scotia 2019 Leadership Awards!
Choose from one or all of the award categories and submit your nomination(s) on or before May 6, 2019. A short list of nominations best matching the criteria will be presented to the sponsors’ selection committees for the final assessment.

The Entrepreneurial Spirit Leadership (New Start Up) award recognizes individuals that have within the past 3 years, seized the opportunity to start up their own manufacturing business within Nova Scotia. | Nomination Form

The Women in Manufacturing Leadership award recognizes women in manufacturing that have demonstrated measured results in improving their organization. They have demonstrated strong leadership and mentoring abilities, that they demonstrated use in business, professional and community activities. | Nomination Form

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Francis P. McGuire, President at the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Francis became President (Deputy Minister) of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency on June 12, 2017

From 2000 to 2015, he was President and CEO of Major Drilling Group International Inc. and served on the Board of Directors. He was Vice President, Marketing and Business Development of MITI Information Technology Inc. from 1998 to 2000. From 1985 to 1997, he was the New Brunswick Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Tourism and Leader of the province’s Information Highway Secretariat. He served on Industrial Alliance’s Board of Directors from 2001 to 2017.

Atlantic Business Magazine named him CEO of the Year 2008. Emeritus member of the New Brunswick Business Council, he was inducted into the New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame in 2012 and was Ernst & Young’s Atlantic Entrepreneur Of The Year 2013.

Laurel C. Broten, President and CEO, Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI)

Since joining NSBI as President and CEO in 2015, Laurel Broten has led the business development agency for Nova Scotia in growing the number of new exporters, increasing the amount of client-reported export sales, as well as the amount of foreign direct investment to rural communities across the province. Her leadership continues to guide transformative strategies that deliver services and programs to businesses when and where they need them.

As a former Bay Street lawyer, Ontario Cabinet Minister, public policy expert and advocate, Laurel has a proven ability to build strategic alliances and partnerships between business, government and communities.

In 2017, Laurel received Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 – CIBC Trailblazers and Trendsetters award. Most recently, Laurel became a proud member of the 30% Club, an organization dedicated to championing meaningful and sustainable change in the gender balance of boards and leadership.

Dennis A. Darby P.Eng., ICD.D, is the President & CEO of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters.

Dennis joined CME in 2017 after nine years as CEO of the Ontario Pharmacists’ Association and a 24 year-long career in senior management at Procter & Gamble, including leadership roles in the US and Europe.

Dennis graduated from McMaster University in 1984 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and Management, and he is an accredited corporate director, having received his ICD.D designation in 2011. He has served on a number of industry and charity boards as both director and Chair.
