I see massive and exciting opportunities for new business and growth through the adoption of new tools from AI to additive manufacturing to improve design, production and service.
Ethical and Practical Challenges of AI Adoption in Manufacturing Environments
AI adoption in manufacturing brings both opportunities and serious challenges. This session will focus on the ethical considerations, risks, and practical hurdles companies must navigate when integrating AI into operations, from workforce impacts to data governance and trust.

Tami Der, Industry and Program Specialist | Prevention Programs and Services, WorkSafeBC
Tami Der has dedicated 30 years to WorkSafeBC, serving as an Industry and Program Specialist. Her extensive tenure reflects a deep commitment to workplace health and safety across British Columbia.
In her role, Tami actively promotes safety ownership and fosters a culture of safety through collaborative efforts. She works closely with industry associations, labour organizations, and health and safety associations, ensuring that safety remains a priority across the manufacturing industry.
Future Skills for Lean Leaders: Preparing for AI and Digital Transformation
As manufacturing evolves, so must its leaders. This session will highlight the essential skills Lean leaders need to thrive in an AI-driven and digitally transformed industry, including adaptability, tech fluency, data-driven decision-making, and leading teams through change.

Throughout his career, John has led manufacturing and non-manufacturing teams globally, excelling in roles such as Operations Manager at Manitoba Land Titles, General Manager at Valmar Airflow/Salford, Business Redesign Manager at Westeel, and Production Cell Leader at Parker Hannifin.
Professor Adam Clare, FREng, Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, University of British Columbia
Editor-in-Chief Additive Manufacturing, Rolls-Royce/Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair, Associate Director UBC Manufacturing Engineering Program.
After 13 years at the University of Nottingham (UK) I moved to UBC (Canada) after an extended period of supporting high value manufacturers. Prior collaborations have included Siemens, Oerlikon and Rolls-Royce which has resulted in both academic and industrial impact. My team has graduated 23 PhD students who currently hold roles in industry and academia. We have founded 2 spin out companies (now employing 20 people) and published over 200 academic publications which are/have been well used by our community.

Clint Matthias, Director of Manufacturing, RIMEX
Clint Matthias has had a distinguished career, beginning with 22 years of service in the UK military. In 2017, he relocated with his family to Canada, where he joined RIMEX. Since then, Clint has held various roles within the company, demonstrating his versatility and commitment. In 2023, he was appointed as the Director of Manufacturing of RIMEX Supply, where he now oversees both manufacturing facilities in British Columbia. Clint’s extensive leadership experience coupled with being a lean advocate has been instrumental in driving the company’s operational Success.
