SPEAKERS
Dr. Jon Callegher, Employment Research and Executive Director of Job Talks
As the Executive Director of Job Talks, a media agency that promotes Skilled Trades careers, Dr. Jon Callegher has personally interviewed more than 100 young Skilled Trades people and he has overseen more than $1.2 million in federal and provincial research projects.
A dynamic speaker, Jon has shared his message on CBC radio, TV, and at conferences across Canada and the U.S. He is a full-time professor in the School of Marketing at George Brown College in Toronto and he has a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Waterloo.
Karen Ergus, Sr. Director of Public Relations for the National Apprenticeships Program (NAP) for the Natives Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC)
Karen is creating positive social change by advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion for visible minorities, the disabled, Indigenous Peoples and members of the 2SLGTBQIA+ communities in the oral health care and employment sectors.
She has decades of public and private sector expertise with a focus on education, healthcare, and business law and more than 35 years in dental oral health. As a Senior Clinical Dental Hygienist for the First Nations’ Reserve in Maniwaki, Quebec, one of Canada’s largest reserves, Karen continues to mentor on reserve hygienists for over 7 years.
In addition, to being a business lawyer, inventor, and author, Karen advocates for safer and welcoming work environments for both the employers and employees.
More importantly, Karen’s focus in the last few years has been as the Sr. Director of Public Relations for the National Apprenticeships Program (NAP) for the Natives Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) in Ottawa which helps Indigenous women and 2SLGTBQIA+persons access employment opportunities with companies, including manufacturers across Canada, that share the view that economic empowerment of women is a vital component of reconciliation.
