Manufacturing Recovery Round Tables

OVERVIEW

CME invites you to attend a series of senior level round tables on topics of interest to manufacturers. These meetings are designed to connect you with senior manufacturing leaders to learn how others are addressing key issues/opportunities. It is also a chance to hear what CME has done to support companies in this area and provide input into other needed services, supports, and advocacy.

There is no better time than now to refocus our efforts on closing the productivity gap and strengthening manufacturing as the backbone of the Manitoba economy. By engaging and connecting with leaders in your community, you can help to ensure CME’s programs and services are tailored to the current and future needs of the manufacturing industry in your region. We look forward to sharing insights with participants in Manitoba.

NOTE: Sessions will be held in-person, but virtual attendance is available for those not able to attend. In-person and virtual spots are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

SUPPLY CHAIN / LOGISTICS - APRIL 18, 2024

The Manufacturing Supply Chain Roundtable is designed to connect manufacturing leaders responsible for supply chain decisions, to discuss and learn how others are dealing with challenges in this area. It also offers an opportunity to learn from others’ experiences and explore how CME can assist companies or support companies in this area. Moreover, it provides a platform to voice opinions on additional services, support mechanisms, and advocacy efforts.

 

Some items to be discussed during this 2-hour meeting will be:

 

  • How have you adjusted your Supply Chain strategy / tactics in the past several years? (procurement, inventory, transportation, prices, quality, lead times, etc)
  • What supply chain issues are you encountering now which affect your ability to produce or sell products? What do you see changing going forward and what are you doing to prepare for those changes? Best practices?
  • How are you dealing with changing technologies. Does your I.T. / ERP / Business Systems support e-Commerce and e-Procurement and sourcing?
  • Are you able to find or retain staff with needed skills in the supply chain field?
  • How could CME assist with networking groups, tools, training, assessments, advice, advocacy, etc?

BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT - MARCH 26, 2024

The Business Environment Roundtable is designed to connect with senior manufacturing leaders on external barriers to growing your company. It is also a chance to hear what CME does to represent manufacturing concerns to government and directly support companies in resolving issues faced by regulations, costs, processes, and red tape when dealing with government or other public agencies. Ryan Greer, CME’s national policy lead is expected to join us.

 

Some items to be discussed during this 2-hour meeting will be:

  • What is the impact of tax policies (taxes, incentives, process fees, etc…) on your business?
  • How reasonable are regulatory requirements and processes and how timely are the approvals or services that are needed including Hydro?
  • What tax / regulatory barriers or challenges do you see in making investment decisions about expansion, new buildings, technology, skills, productivity, etc…? What actions of the government would encourage you to expand here and to invest more in your business?
  • How do government programs and policies related to the environment (including climate change) affect your business decisions? What would you like to see?
  • How could CME better assist with representing / resolving individual or group issues (networking, advice, information and data, advocacy, etc…)?

FINANCE - FEBRUARY 28, 2024

The FINANCE in Manufacturing round table is designed to connect with senior manufacturing leaders responsible for finance to discuss and learn how others are dealing with current financial management to best support their company’s profitable growth. It is also a chance to hear what CME has to offer to support companies in this area and to provide input into other needed services, supports, and advocacy.

 

Some items to be discussed during this 2-hour meeting I will facilitate will be:

  • How finance can be more future oriented for planning vs looking backwards
  • What technologies are being used to manage information?
  • What are best practices in areas such as costing, inventory management etc. – lessons learned?
  • What process or system changes are you considering in the near future?
  • What tax / regulatory barriers or challenges do you see in making investment decisions about technology, skills, productivity, etc?
  • How could CME assist with networking, tools, training, assessments, advice, advocacy, etc?

SKILL DEVELOPMENT / ACADEMIC - FEBRUARY 9, 2024

The SKILL DEVELOPMENT / ACADEMICS in Manufacturing round table is designed to connect with senior manufacturing leaders responsible for ensuring that the best people with the right skills are in place supporting company objectives and growth. It is also a chance to hear what CME has to offer to support companies in this area and to provide input into other needed services, supports, and advocacy.

 

Some items to be discussed during this 2-hour meeting will be:

  • What are the skills most needed now? In the future?
  • How effective is the education system (including colleges / universities) in addressing your skills needs with new employees or existing employees?
  • What government policies / programs are helpful or harmful in addressing your workforce needs? What could government do to improve?
  • Are you aware of (or take advantage) of work experience programs such as internships, Co-ops, or funding to support such engagements?
  • How could CME assist in this area with networking, tools, training (including leadership), assessments, advice, advocacy, promotion, etc.?
