GHY PIONEER AWARD

ABOUT THE AWARD

The Pioneer award looks back at those people who began a manufacturing business in Manitoba and nurtured it into a successful company. This award recognizes key builders of our manufacturing community who launched successful companies that significantly increased employment in the sector.

Previous Recipient

Willie Dueck (Vidir Solutions) Posthumously awarded

Willie Dueck was the definition of a pioneer and entrepreneur. Paving the way for communities and organizations across North America, Willie was a champion of caring about people and ensuring that problems were being solved. Among the many businesses Willie started, he also started hospitals, care homes, churches, schools, and aid organizations.  In his 60’s, Willie saw the need for a machine shop in the Interlake area to service farmers and also to provide jobs to skilled machinists who had immigrated to the area. Several years later Willie, together with his team, created the first carpet carousel’s for home good stores and Vidir Solutions was born. Now, in it’s third generation of family ownership, Vidir Solutions is a world leader in automated material handling solutions, providing products for over 45 countries and in every industry around the globe
