Ontario manufacturers can access a variety of funding programs, loans, and supports designed to drive growth, strengthen competitiveness, and help navigate trade and tariff challenges. This page highlights current opportunities available to Ontario manufacturers.

Financing and Loan Programs

Access capital to support business growth, operations, and investment.

Regional Development Program: Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness Stream

  • Financial support for advanced manufacturing companies (particularly SMEs across Ontario) through investments in capital equipment, technology adoption, and skills development
  • Application deadline: September 23, 2026

OCI – Development and Commercialization Program 

  • Receive up to $100k to derisk and offset the costs of your product development activities, including free access to a Technology Development Site
  • Application deadline: N/A (open for rolling intake)

Expanded Energy Management Program

  • Receive funding up to $250,000 for the installation of an energy management system
  • Application deadline: Open for rolling intake (program ends in 2027)

Tax Credits

Reduce your tax burden while investing in your business.

Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit

  • 15% refundable corporate income tax credit calculated on qualifying expenditures – equal to a maximum of $20 million in a taxation year
  • Closing date: December 31, 2029

Co-operative Education Tax Credit

  • Access a refundable tax credit of 25-30% to a maximum of $3,000 per placement to hire co-op students

Ontario Business Research Institute Tax Credit

  • Claim a 20% refundable tax credit for qualified expenditures on scientific research and experimental development work performed in Ontario under contract with eligible research institutes

Ontario Innovation Tax Credit

  • Get a refundable tax credit of 8% for innovative scientific research and experimental development expenditures

Ontario Research and Development Tax Credit

  • Claim a non-refundable tax credit on eligible scientific research and experimental development expenditures performed in Ontario to reduce your Ontario corporate income tax payable

Regional Opportunities Investment Tax Credit

  • A 10% refundable corporate income tax credit is available to corporations that invest over $50,000 in constructing, renovating, or acquiring eligible commercial or industrial buildings in designated regions of the province that experienced slower employment growth between 2009 and 2019

Tax Refund for a Power Take Off

  • Get a refund on tax paid for fuel to operate auxiliary equipment such as cement mixers, aerial buckets, lifts and cranes or refrigeration units, power vacuums, pumps and blowers
  • Closing date: July 1, 2027

Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit

  • Tax credit is equal to 10% of the apprentice salary, payable to eligible employers with a maximum of $2,000 per year, per apprentice for the first 2 years of the apprenticeship in Red Seal trades

Tariff and Trade Supports

Support to help manufacturers manage the impacts of tariffs, trade disruptions, and export challenges.

CanExport SMEs

  • SMEs can receive up to $50,000 to support the costs of business development activities to expand into new international markets
  • Funding is limited, and applications are assessed on a rolling competitive basis
  • Application deadline: May 29, 2026 at 12 p.m.

BDC – Pivot to Grow Loan

  • If your business exports to the U.S. or is impacted by U.S. tariffs, you can get a loan of up to $5 million to help boost your cash flow
  • Application deadline: N/A

Protect Ontario Financing Program

  • Support for businesses that are facing significant tariff-related disruptions as a result of s.232 tariffs on steel, aluminum, copper and autos
  • Application deadline: N/A

Ontario Together Trade Fund

  • Financial support to help businesses near-term investments so they can serve more interprovincial customers, develop new markets and re-shore critical supply chains
  • Application deadline: N/A

Regional Tariff Response Initiative

  • Funding for SMEs to tackle trade tariff challenges and strengthen their competitive edge
  • Application deadline: Applications accepted on a rolling basis

CanExport GAC-Led Delegations

  • SMEs can apply for funding to cover up to 50% of costs related to participation in select trade missions and delegations led by Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC) Trade Commissioner Service (TCS)
  • Application deadline: the funding application period depends on dates of GAC-led trade missions or delegations

Hiring & Wage Supports

Support to help offset the cost of hiring and retaining workers.

Science Horizons – Youth Internship

  • Hire an intern for 6 to 12 months for an environmental science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) job and receive a subsidy of up to $25,000 to cover up to 80% of their salary
  • Application deadline: March 31, 2028

Mitacs – Accelerate

  • Cut R&D costs while accessing top academic talent to solve real manufacturing challenges—such as process optimization, automation, and product development—through funded, applied research projects
  • Application deadline: March 31, 2028

NRC IRAP – Youth Employment Program

  • Get financial assistance to help cover the cost of hiring a post-secondary graduate (15 to 30 years old) for 6 to 12 months to work on projects with R&D, engineering, multimedia or market analysis components or the development of a new product or process
  • Application deadline: N/A

Riipen – Level UP

  • At no cost, leverage top post-secondary students to support your projects through fully subsidized 60-hour internships
  • Application deadline: N/A

TECHNATION – Career Ready Program

  • Apply for Government of Canada-funded wage subsidies (up to $7,000 per student) to help offset the cost of hiring post-secondary students in tech-immersive roles
  • Application deadline: N/A (applications accepted on a rolling basis)

Achievement Incentive Program

  • Up to $17,000 to eligible employers when apprentices meet training and certification milestones
  • Application deadline: N/A
