Discover the cutting-edge world of MetaLigna Modular Inc., where innovation transforms the construction of buildings into the manufacturing of buildings. Founded in 2021 by a team of innovators, MetaLigna’s first project was designing and manufacturing the first Health Canada-approved, 100-bed mobile hospital.

In a strategic move in 2022, MetaLigna secured a 15800m2 facility in Arnprior, Ontario. This marked a transformative era for the company on their journey of producing custom and repeatable light gauge steel buildings and expanding their offerings to include volumetric modular products, including park models and Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).

MetaLigna stands out as a leading provider of innovative solutions for the housing and construction industry throughout North America and beyond. Their expertise lies in Design for Manufacture Assembly (DfMA) of modular and kit-of-parts buildings. In simple terms, they’re the folks making buildings shipped in modules as well as building components that are flat-packed and shipped for assembly on site.

Technology Integration

MetaLigna is a proud participant of CME’s Technology Investment Program, funded by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

Thanks to this initiative, MetaLigna successfully integrated new technology into their operations – the Light Gauge Steel X6 Roll Forming System. Highly customized for MetaLigna’s specific needs, this advanced machinery has doubled the number of light gauge steel stud and track profiles produced, allowing MetaLigna to manufacture kit-of-parts buildings up to 12 stories instead of the previous 6, a feat previously deemed unattainable with their existing machines.

With this technology in place, not only does the X6 allow the company to produce taller, stronger buildings in less time, but also, MetaLigna is no longer relying on external sources for steel framing parts as they can now efficiently and autonomously manufacture them in-house.

The Future is Bright

The implementation of this technology promises significant operational advantages, as evidenced by long-term financial modelling. Projections suggest a substantial 25% monthly boost in direct revenue. It is also estimated that an additional eight full-time jobs and three-part jobs will be created as a result, making a positive contribution to local employment.

As their portfolio continues to diversify, MetaLigna’s range of single, multi-family, and accessory residential building systems and modular units will help play an important role in addressing the housing needs of various sectors, including non-profit organizations involved in developing housing solutions, municipalities, and developers catering to the average renter or home buyer.
