CME WELCOMES OPEN FOR BUSINESS COMMITMENTS IN FALL ECONOMIC STATEMENT

TORONTO, November 15, 2018

Dennis Darby, President and CEO of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) released the following statement on today’s Ontario Fall Economic Statement:

“We are pleased with the Government of Ontario’s commitments to unveil an Open for Business Plan and to undertake a review of industrial electricity pricing, two initiatives for which CME has advocated strongly. Measures to reduce red tape, commitments to introduce programs to address skill shortages and calls for the Federal Government to match the immediate expansions of depreciation through the Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance (ACCA) are also welcomed by manufacturers. CME will continue to work with the Government of Ontario to ensure that a competitive business environment is established for manufacturers, and we look forward to advancing discussions to achieve this important objective for our sector and for the province.”

CME is committed to the success of manufacturing in Ontario. In 2018, we launched the Manufacturing Matters initiative which highlights the important contributions of the sector for the economy. CME also held a series of consultations with manufacturers across the province to help develop an industry-proposed manufacturing strategy for Ontario which will be released next month.
