CME congratulates Liberal Party on election win

OCTOBER 21, 2019

Dennis Darby, President & CEO of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters issued today the following statement with regards to Canada’s 43rd election:

“On behalf of Canadian manufacturers, CME would like to congratulate Mr. Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada for their victory tonight.

During the election campaign, no details were shared on how the political parties plan to leverage the manufacturing sector —  which is responsible for 1.7 million jobs — to boost the economy.  CME looks forward to meeting with the new government as soon as possible and, work together in articulating a plan to grow our manufacturing sector and our economy.

The adoption and commercialization of advanced manufacturing technologies for productivity gains and, the development of the workforce through enhanced immigration and training should be at the top of the priority list for the new government.  Canada needs to regain its position as a productive and modern economy if we are going to take advantage of the trade agreements we have  and leverage our strengths as a leading steward of resource development, energy production, and manufacturing.”
