Strengthening Integrated Manufacturing and the NAFTA

February 10, 2017

We understand there remains a great deal of uncertainty and many questions over what may happen in NAFTA and the ability of Canadian companies to continue to access the US market as part of integrated supply chains. At CME we continue to work on behalf of all of our members to ensure that your interests are top of mind for government officials and to get you answers to these questions when they become available.

As part of this process, today I wrote to Prime Minister Trudeau regarding the ongoing discussion about the future of integrated trade with the United States, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Specifically, I offered our collective assistance and perspective in three critical areas: (I) renegotiation and modernization of NAFTA, (ii) Canada’s competitiveness for capital investment internationally, and (iii) acknowledgment and celebration of the positive trade policy alignment between Canada and the US.

We greatly appreciate your continued support for CME’s ongoing efforts to make manufacturing in Canada stronger, more competitive and growing. If you have any specific questions or comments on CME’s actions on your behalf, on the government’s strategy or on the US strategy, please feel free to contact us at policy@cme-mec.ca.
