About S-211

After passing Parliament and receiving Royal Assent in 2023, S-211 has come into force as of January 1st, 2024. The legislation requires businesses and government institutions to report on the measures being taken to reduce the risk of forced or child labour within their supply networks. Specifically, the Act requires businesses of a certain size to file an annual report with the federal government and publish it on their business website before May 31 every year that describes the steps the organization has taken during its previous financial year to prevent and reduce the risk that forced labour or child labour is used in any step of the production of goods in Canada or elsewhere by organization or of goods imported into Canada by the organization. Organizations must file their first report under the legislation less than five months from now, no later than May 31, 2024. More guidance from the federal government on the obligations and reporting requirements of the legislation can be found here: https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/cntrng-crm/frcd-lbr-cndn-spply-chns/index-en.aspx
