CME Welcomes Electrification and Energy Transition Panel Report
The Clean Energy Opportunity Report, unveiled by Ontario’s Electrification and Energy Transition Panel, touches on recommendations that will help the province prepare for electrification and the energy transition.
CME welcomes the report’s expressed commitment to leverage Ontario’s clean energy advantage, concurrently fostering increased investment, prosperity, and building good jobs.
We especially welcome the following themes, which align directly with CME’s submission to the panel:
- The North Star is a prosperous clean energy economy for Ontario by 2050, maximizing economic prosperity in alignment with industrial strategy, and becoming the jurisdiction of choice for low-carbon manufacturing.
- The need to align planning of electricity, natural gas, and other fuels in a holistic way.
- Centering planning on the needs of energy consumers, at a pace that maintains affordability, reliability, resilience, and choice for consumers.
- True partnership with Indigenous people is needed as those will condition the ability of Ontario to deliver on its ambitious objectives for clean energy development within the timelines provided.
We also welcome the recommendation for an Energy Transition Advisory Council and hope for significant industrial participation within this council. This is particularly crucial considering the manufacturing sector’s extensive involvement and significant stake in Ontario’s energy planning processes.
